While growing up, my family never really belonged to a church. I went with friends occasionally, but that was usually when I spent the night at their house on a Saturday night. However, I always felt it in me that a God does exist. I'm still working on a reason for why but I think it has a lot to do with my belief that "everything happens for a reason." And as humans, we think we're this supreme being, but how do we know that? How do we know that there aren't other universes or a force upon us that is just too above our comprehension to see?
My parents grew up in Protestant Christian families. Like I said, not having grown up in a church, I was taught the basics: the 10 Commandments, the Golden Rule, The Lord's Prayer, etc. When I was a junior in high school, I finally started going to church on my own. My best friends were in a youth group, FISH, (Fellowship in Senior High) at the local Presbyterian church. After going to the group and services for almost a year, I decided to join the church. I felt at home with the congregation and that my beliefs were already very similar to theirs. I'm glad that I didn't grow up being forced to attend my parent's church, because, although I ultimately remained Protestant like them, I feel my religion means more to me because I chose it for myself.
