I think that all families have screts. There are always going to be things that are ok to say around family and friends that should not be said to everyone else. These secrets are necessary because they help with keeping a family's honor or pride. People don't want everyone to know everything that is going on in their lives. People will always hold back information that is going to make themselves look bad.
I'm sure there are families that hide more from the rest of the world then they should. In my family family secrets play a role in keeping the peace at times. For example when the whole family is together my sister has to cover up her tattoo so that neither of my grandmoms see it.
