HOME - Mitchell Book

Home for me right now it the house that my wife and I bought in December. Even though the area I am living in is different from where I am from, it is becoming more like home everyday. I have found that when you buy a house, there is a real sense of ownership that occurs. This feeling continues to grow as you customize it to your liking. I have already but many hours of work into our house and know that I will have many more in the future. The work I have invested has been what has given me a real pride in what I currently consider home.
As far as where I am from, I believe I will always feel that this is McLean, VA. This is a town right on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. Every time I go back to this area I am flooded by memories and feelings of what used to be home. I lived in Northern Virginia from 4th grade through the end of college, when my family decided to move to California.
Towards the end of high school for me my parents ended up getting divorced. After the divorce my Dad rented a place in McLean for the next 6 years or so, while my mom continued to move from one residence to the next. Throughout this time I personally felt that my dad's place felt more like home, because it was more consistent and I spend more time with my dad. There was one house that my mom bought that started feeling somewhat like home because she stayed there the longest.
